MASKEREMI

"No need to thank me."

~

"I don't remember asking for help."

CHARACTERS:

Remington Smisse.

The dashing rogue prince of the Northern Smisse clan. Son of Kouto Smisse and older brother of Grany Smisse, Remi spends the majority of his time hunting down Shushu weaponry.

Maskemane.

The son of a mask maker in a remote village in the mountains. When the king of rogues, Kouto Smisse, burned his village to the ground, he threw away his old mortal self. He became the Maskemane, a spirit of vengeance.

THE VIBE
Maskemane and Remington were introduced in the same expanded content of the French MMO named Dofus where they were introduced alongside a flash game. In the flash game, the new classes, Masqueraider and Rogues, were represented by two new characters, Maskemane and Remington Smisse. While at the time we knew little about them, I already fell in love with their dynamic. Maskemane comes off as completely psychotic. Closed off to Remington sometimes, but his personality shifts dramatically when he changes masks, of which he has three. Remington is bombastic, and suave, though Maskemane doesn't react to it much. They're both in it for their own goals and yet somehow still end up fighting alongside each other in most things. The short game they appear in together is the only time we see Remington and Maskemane interact. :( ...but that's never stopped the ship train before.

Aside from just the flash game, Remington and Maskemane were both featured in their own comics, which is where the REAL meat is. Remi's father kills off all of Maskemane's clan, so there's always this underlying tension you should feel when they interact. I always hc Remington doesn't know about Kouto's deeds with the Masqueraider clan, but even if he did, Rogues do all sorts of awful things, so I doubt it would bother him much.

That juxtaposed with Maskemane's entire personality being based off of the genocide of his clan just leads to some really interesting thoughts for me! I like the idea that Remington and Maskemane can bond off of having shitty feelings toward Kouto. Remi has his fair share of trauma with a shitlord dad like he's got, but I like the mixed feelings he might still have with Maskemane going on a crusade to kill him. Maskemane sees himself not as human, but as the vengeful spirit of his dead family, meant to haunt Kouto. The story that I love to put these two in asks the question... what if Kouto wasn't in the picture anymore? After the events of the comic, Maskemane doesn't get his sweet revenge, and instead Kouto is killed by a third party. Now, he's saddled with complicated feelings. ooh! Remington on the other hand has lost the father who drove him from his clan, and now has plenty of people vying for his father's position. The two are put into a whirlwind of change, and just like always, they're somehow together for the majority of it.

In short, I'd like them to kiss passionately. My personal hc puts Maskemane around his early twenties, and Remington a few years more seasoned than Maskemane. Remington cares for Maskemane in the way he might a younger brother, but respects him as a warrior. They are of a similar amount of power. Remi is equally irritated by Maskemane's often rash and self destructive behavior.

Maskemane finds Remington to be vain and superficial. This is true some of the time, but Maskemane is often surprised by the depth Remington occasionaly shows, namely in the love for his family. They're similar in that way, and it touches a soft place in whatever is left of Maskemane's heart.

DYNAMIC IN BED
Remington and Maskemane seem like they'd switch, but I think more often than not, the more experienced Remington takes the lead over Maskemane. Maskemane isn't very good at being intimate, and I think he has problems with seeing himself as anything other than a warrior hellbent on revenge. He's sarcastic, and loves to poke Remi's buttons, but he can't actually dish it out much when Remington finally takes over and gets tired of his pushing. I like to think he's very innocent in some ways, and he never really learned much about romance until he was forced to leave his village. Maskemane is a bit of a romantic, in the end, he likes to be caressed, and taken care of. Remi on the other hand doesn't much like to relinquish control, so if Maskemane does top, I think it's only after Remi finds trust in him. I feel like if they slept together, it'd be a pendulum swing of making love and feverish fucking in a back alley. They just can't decide if they want to kill or marry each other.
It takes them a long time to get intimate at first. I headcanon when they first met that Maskemane was likely in his late teens, and he was a bit too fiery for Remington to handle at first. Not to mention he's really squirrely, and Maskemane doesn't sit in one place for too long.
